Tutorial
✽ Materials
-
Canvas/Watercolor paper
- Painter's tape
- Tempera paint
- Water cup
- Paint brush & palette
✽ Steps
-
1. Prep your canvas with tape. Apply tape to all the areas you want to keep white, whether this is the full pattern or just a few stripes is up to you!
-
2. Apply your first paint color. Start with the lightest color in your chosen palette. If you've applied all your tape, paint in the sections you want that color. If you're planning on layering, paint the whole background.
- 3. Place your next pieces of tape. Once the first layer of paint has dried, place your tape on the areas you want to keep that color. Anything that is under the tape will be protected from further layers of paint.
- 4. Paint your next color. Once again choose your next lightest color and paint either in between your taped off sections, or the whole background.
- 5. Dry, tape, repeat. Let your newest layer dry completely before applying your next layer of tape on the places where you want to keep the color you just painted. Repeat this process until you get to your chosen background color (which should be your darkest color).
- 6. Remove the tape! Once you've applied all your paint and it has fully dried it is time to remove the tape carefully and reveal your masterpiece! Take your time with this step, especially if you're using watercolor paper.
