Renovations are underway at 1539 Light Street! We're hard at work, ripping up carpet, repainting walls, laying laminate flooring, and bringing in furniture and all of the craft supplies you could imagine! We are beyond excited about this new location, and can't wait to invite you all into the studio! Speaking of - we're planning a soft launch on Sunday, November 24! We will have Thanksgiving and fall themed crafts for all ages, some coffee, tea, seltzer, juice boxes, and snacks. See below for the invitation (RSVP if you can, but feel free to drop by unannounced too!). |
You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.

I am a new Baltimore resident; it's been almost a year since my husband and I bought our home here on South Baltimore! Although living in Baltimore is new to us, the city itself is not - we both grew up ~30 minutes south in PG County. I'd often visit Baltimore for Orioles games, the Aquarium, and Port Discovery. Recently I brought a friend's 3-year-old son to Port Discovery, and it's changed a lot, but some parts are exactly the same! As a sentimental person, I was curious to learn a bit more about the history of Arteasy's new home, and found some fun photos. I thought you might enjoy them as much as I did. |

Vibe. Google map street view, 2009 Quite a refresh between 2007 - 2009! I am hoping to give the facade another makeover in the next few months, with help from the city Facade Improvement Grant.

According to SDAT records, the property was sold in 2013, 2016, and 2021, nearly tripling in value in that time frame. I don't know for sure, but it seems like the next use after the hair salon, was residential. I am a bit sad to have lost those checkered floors, but the wood is beautiful so I can't really complain!

Residential Use
I found this photo from a Zillow listing, but no date. I do know that those floors are the current ones, and that wall color has just been painted over :) - so I am thinking this is pretty recent. It is cool to see this photo side-by-side with the hair salon photo from nearly the same angle. I am so excited to be able to add to the flexible use of this Baltimore store-front/row home.

This was all I could find online, aside from the fact that this property was built in 1900 -- which is actually younger than many other homes in the area! I am tempted to keep researching the history of this space, so let me know if you are a history buff and can offer tips on research or accessing city archival information! Looking forward to meeting you soon, and showing off the next phase of this property's history! - Ann Marie Hensel, Arteasy co-Founder
